Biodiversity Costa Rica
The biodiversity Costa Rica is unparalleled along with it's many physical features,
this country truly has it all. National Geographic described the southern Osa pennisula in Costa Rica as "the most biologically intense place on earth". Although this country’s small land mass covers only .03% of the earth’s surface, it is home to approximately 6% of all the world’s different species.
Costa Rica is home to hundreds of species of freshwater fish, mammals, and reptiles. In the southern region the protected waters of the Golfo Dulce attracts large groups of whales and dolphins. Over 850 species of birds and thousands of species of butterflies are found here along with over 9000 species of plants. There are over 1200 different varieties just of orchids in Costa Rica.
Eco-tourism
is very popular now and Costa Rica has alot to offer for even the average visitor. On both of my trips to Costa Rica there was always lots of wildlife to see. I saw 3 different types of monkeys, a sloth with a baby on it’s back moving very slooooooooowly through the trees, several coatis, and many different types of birds and butterflies. But I have yet to see the famous tree frogs that you see in all the brochures. I may have to go on a special hunt to see if I can get my own picture of the famous frog.
